Challenges
Improvements
When cutting storefront POP items into odd shapes, a relatively large cutting plotter was used or manual cutting was performed, which made it difficult to achieve delicate cutting. With a conventional machine, small defects were found, such as visible cuts made on the back side, and the overflow of adhesives created on media with adhesives, which caused stains.
Introduction of CFL-605RT enables precise, perfect cutting, which increases technical and proposal skills of the company. More products are adopted at a sample creation phase. There is no failure due to manual cutting, which reduces wasted production costs.

The machine that has always been wanted

Mr. Junichi Anami

“I've always been wanting this,” says Junichi Anami, sales and production representative at POP-Tsujimoto Co., Ltd. “CFL-605RT” was introduced to the company at the beginning of 2018.

Despite its compact body, the cutting plotter, which Anami has always been eyeing, is equipped with multiple processing functions, such as creasing and dotted line cutting, as well as cutting and half cutting.

A decision to introduce the “CFL-605RT” was of course made after reviewing various products. The candidates included inexpensive foreign-made machines, but after considering stability and performance for 5- or 10-year use as well as maintenance, “I decided to choose a reliable Mimaki product,” says Akio Tsujimoto, President. The company began a business relationship with Mimaki around the time of “JV3”, and all of the company staff “rely on” its maintenance and other services.

After installation, every staff member has soon become a user of the machine, because there is no difficulty in operation. “You can use it easily if you have an experience of using a plotter,” and the heaviest user in the company is female staff.
For operation, all you have to do is to perform positioning on the workbench, which ensures firm cutting if you use correct data and understand register marks. The speed is also satisfying; cutting goes on smoothly without delay, depending on the shape to be cut. The cutting plotter does not always need you, and depending on what is created, it allows you to work on jobs at the right timing when you are multitasking.

Odd shape cutting to increase added value

Odd shape cutting makes products stand out and has a high added value

Odd shape cutting makes products stand out and has a high added value

In recent years, the company has received more orders of POP products used in stores, and their shape tends to be not simple rectangular panels.
The company also produces promotional products and magnet goods for navigation, and these are also often cut into shapes like cartoon figures or balloons.

Storefront POP products are produced upon request from household appliance manufacturers, who will fight over the space for display in stores, which are already filled from floor to ceiling with promotional displays. For this reason, POP and magnet items will not be put on the storefront unless they are shaped differently or pop out of others to make products stand out. POP products are required to be eye-catching, make store visitors stop by, and sell products. To realize these functions, odd shape cutting is a must.

More precisely and more beautifully

Before installing the CFL-605RT, the company used a relatively large cutting plotter or performed manual cutting, but delicate cutting was difficult when you trim or cut wood and thick boards.
Styrene boards can be cut, but the side opposite to the side on which a cut is made may be damaged, resulting in unintentional front/back sides of the board. Reciprocating cutting of media with adhesives was another challenging case, where the adhesive sticks to the knife, creating the overflow of the adhesive and causing stains. The company has been wanting to keep an eye on these subtle flaws that would be overlooked by the non-professional and to fix them.

A cutting plotter has the advantage of being capable of creating a single sample, while the number of orders the company often receives is 100 to 200 pieces. An order of one to 10 pieces, which costs much more and has difficulty in creation, is also requested.
These quantities were handled by performing manual cutting, which resulted in low quality, and there was often the case that the manual cutting failed and print must be repeated. It takes much time and costs more as more media are wasted due to failed cutting operation. Anami recalls: “I thought in the past that manual cutting was routine, but, after installing the CFL-605RT, I realized that was wrong (lol).”

Good products bring in more jobs

POP-Tsujimoto Co., Ltd. has been growing based on its professionalism that allows for no subtle flaw and on the attractive proposals they make.
“We identify differences that customers would not notice and create spotless products more beautifully. We don't engage in much sales activities, and we consider our products as a sales tool that brings in the next customer to us. Naturally, we are serious about every product we create,” says Tsujimoto, emphasizing his confidence in and focus on products.

Some job offer comes from agents, and beautiful products have the advantage of being more likely to be proposed by the agents.
Anami feels happy when they say to him, “Your products are so pretty that we can propose them easily.” In fact, after using the CFL-605RT for processing, more products are adopted at a sample creation phase.

“Customers think that it's no surprise that we can do this. No surprise, because we are professional. We feel happy when we respond to their trust. As a tool to do that, we will use the CFL-605RT,” says Tsujimoto, proudly.
